A Great Day for 2008 Boulder Sprints

Except for breezy conditions nearing the end of competition, this year's Boulder Sprints went off near-perfect for participants and spectators alike. The event was held on April 18 th at the Boulder Reservoir and sponsored this year by Boulder Community Rowing and Colorado Junior Crew. Denver's Rocky Mountain Rowing Club and Rocky Mountain Junior Crew Club rounded out the competitors.

The 900 meter race had eight divisions, ranging from two to eight people rowing. Rowing, called Crew, has become a very popular sport with participants ranging from high school to seniors. It takes fitness, finesse, balance, strength and most important, teamwork, which makes it a very social sport. As Colorado Junior Crew (CJC) president Jeff Erickson says, "our motto is come row with us." CJC accepts all high school age students, no experience necessary. Boulder Community Rowing offers learn-to-row programs for all ages that are very popular during the summer In one weekend, they will teach all the basics to become a novice rower. Rocky Mountain Rowing also offers learn-to-row sessions at their home at the Cherry Creek Reservoir.

From the looks of the happy competitors at the race, this is one fun sport. For more information about Colorado Junior Crew, go to www.cjcrew.org.
