Aquateens place in top ten at nationals

The Boulder Aquateens synchronized swim team placed in the top ten at the 2008 National Age-Group Championships. The meet was held June 28 th- July 5 th in Binghamton, NY, where over 1,000 up-and-coming junior athletes competed for titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events in four age groups 11-12, 13-15, 16-17 and 18-19.

For each event, routines that place in the top ten in the preliminary competition qualify to compete in Finals. For the first time, Aquateens placed five routines into Finals. In the 16-17 age-group solos, Taylor Kitayama and Sami Davis finished ninth and tenth place respectively. In 16-17 Duets, Sami Davis and Rebecca Vickers took seventh place, the 18-19 Trio of Katie Fremont, Michelle Tillman and Rebecca Vickers took tenth place, and the 18-19 Team finished in eighth place, which includes: Katie Browning (Boulder), Sami Davis (Boulder), Katie Fremont (Boulder), Taylor Kitayama (Boulder), Sandy MacDonnell (Boulder), Michelle Tillman (Superior), Rebecca Vickers (Boulder).

The Aquateens 16-17 team just missed Finals with an eleventh place finish. Swimmers on the 16-17 team include Maya Flint (Lafayette), Corinne Hall (Broomfield), Monica Hescheles (Boulder), Kate MacDonnell (Boulder), and Anna Peshock (Boulder).

The Boulder Aquateens is a competitive youth synchronized swimming team drawing swimmers from the entire BoulderValley region. They are coached by Traci Lunsford (Thornton) and train September through July each year. For more information, visit www.boulderaquateens.org.
