BOULDER, COLO., APRIL 27, 2006... Seventy-five hard working students
from CU's College of Arts and Sciences will get a financial boost
today as they received a total of $150,000 in scholarship money
raised by the 2005 TIAA-CREF Buffalo Bicycle Classic. The Buffalo
Bicycle Classic Scholars all carry a grade point average of 3.0 or
higher, are in-state students in the College of Arts and Sciences,
and are registered for financial aid. Now in its fourth year,
TIAA-CREF Buffalo Bicycle Classic has become the largest single
source of scholarship funds for the College of Arts &
Sciences.
At a ceremony Todd Gleeson, Dean of
the College of Arts and Sciences, will proudly present the students
with the funds generated by the participants of the TIAA-CREF
Buffalo Bicycle Classic, which took place in September 2005.
Gleeson recognized the students for their hard work, and the
organizers, sponsors and participants for their dedication: "We're
proud of our Buffalo Bicycle Classic Scholars, a number of whom
qualified for the second or third year in a row. With the help of
our title sponsor, TIAA-CREF, we look forward to continuing this
tradition on September 10, 2006"
Goals for the 2006 event are to
continue to increase the funds raised as well as the number of
participants. New for this year is a 13-mile community fun ride,
referred to as the Little Buffalo. Those wishing to ride longer
distances can choose 35-mile, 50-mile, 70-mile or the popular
100-mile "century" courses. Rider fees for the fully supported
pledge ride are $85 which includes the $40 registration fee plus
the $45 minimum donation/pledge. This year's event will be limited
to 2,200 riders.
Riders can register online before noon September 9, 2006 at
www.buffalobicycleclassic.com. Walk up registration is available the day of the ride. For
