Blog Entry 151 of 160 Sixteen Pounds from Normal
This used to be the part of my blog description where I told you what a giant, smelly, disgusting wide-body I was. Seriously, I used to be so fat it was yesterday behind me. However, I've lost over a hundred pounds since May of 2008. You'll have to excuse me if I don't regale you with self-depricating humor about being fat anymore. You know, stuff like, "The last thing I saw that big and white, it stepped on a church in 'Ghostbusters'." Nope; no more of that. I do however reserve the right to continue to digust you with stories of personal hygiene gone awry, stupid things done with power tools, inane word play, and an overindulgence of double entendre and innuendo. Be forewarned that political correctness is not high on my list of priorities. This is also an equal opportunity blog. I will write about whatever tickles my fancy at a given time. There are no sacred cows on my blog. On the vast palette of life, few of us are primary colors. Most of us more closely resemble the crap caked on the brush when it's not been cleaned well. And don't expect me to post every day. I'm not so full of crap that I can regurgitate the same boring diatribe day in and day out. Or to put it another way, I'm not a political blogger. Don't get me wrong; I'll kvetch about this and that, but in a hopefully amusing manner. To that point, I also should tell you that I write to amuse myself. If you get yours too, so much the better

Thornton Community Band- "All-American Influences"

The Thornton Community Band will present "All-American Influences", its second concert of 2008-2009 season, on Thursday, March 5, 2009. The concert will be held at the Skyview High School Auditorium, 8990 York Street, at 7:30 p.m. and is free of charge, although donations will be accepted. This marks the third time the TCB has performed at this venue. The inaugural concert was performed at Skyview on May 8, 2008, and the first concert of the current season was performed there on October 30th, 2008.

As the theme of the concert implies, it will feature music that will reflect home town America, conjuring up images of Rockwell paintings, concerts in the park, family picnics, and barn dances. Music from such American composers as John Philip Sousa and Aaron Copland will be featured in the main set. Also featured will be a four piece Dixieland band which will be accompanied by the full concert band. The Dixieland band will be performing a medley titled "At a Dixie Jazz Funeral".

"This arrangement ranges from 'Just a Closer Walk With Thee', which may bring tears to those familiar with the song, all the way to 'When The Saints Go Marching In', which should bring a smiling, toe tapping crowd to their feet!" said Harley Brown, a founding member of the band. "You're going to like this concert. I guarantee it!"

In addition, this concert will feature guest conductor Dr. David Romines. Dr. Romines has been teaching music education classes and conducting instrumental ensembles at Metropolitan State University since January, 2009 and is currently serving as Educational Advisor and Board Member for the U.S.-China Cultural and Educational Foundation. As well as being deeply involved in cultural exchange with China, Romines has also directed innumerable ensembles at all levels and guest conducted throughout the U.S., Canada, Italy, and South Korea over the last 28 years.

For the full program as well as directions to the venue, follow this link to the TCB website, http://thorntonband.webs.com/ournextconcert.htm . While at the website, patrons can also access the TCB calendar to make sure they don't miss upcoming performances or special engagements.

Wow! You sound like a journalist! Which YourHub was hoping we would be when they started this thing (instead of a bunch of smart-arses lol). By the way, Susan and I were woken up this morning by the Moscata, MX school marching band right outside of our room! Viva la Mexico!

We can pick you up if you'd like.

I hope I can come to this concert. Sounds like my kind of music.
