Blog Entry 157 of 160 Sixteen Pounds from Normal
This used to be the part of my blog description where I told you what a giant, smelly, disgusting wide-body I was. Seriously, I used to be so fat it was yesterday behind me. However, I've lost over a hundred pounds since May of 2008. You'll have to excuse me if I don't regale you with self-depricating humor about being fat anymore. You know, stuff like, "The last thing I saw that big and white, it stepped on a church in 'Ghostbusters'." Nope; no more of that. I do however reserve the right to continue to digust you with stories of personal hygiene gone awry, stupid things done with power tools, inane word play, and an overindulgence of double entendre and innuendo. Be forewarned that political correctness is not high on my list of priorities. This is also an equal opportunity blog. I will write about whatever tickles my fancy at a given time. There are no sacred cows on my blog. On the vast palette of life, few of us are primary colors. Most of us more closely resemble the crap caked on the brush when it's not been cleaned well. And don't expect me to post every day. I'm not so full of crap that I can regurgitate the same boring diatribe day in and day out. Or to put it another way, I'm not a political blogger. Don't get me wrong; I'll kvetch about this and that, but in a hopefully amusing manner. To that point, I also should tell you that I write to amuse myself. If you get yours too, so much the better

A hiker's prayer

The inspiration for this post was a particularly grueling, fourteen mile hike I did recently in my prepartion for my upcoming Pike's Peak hike. I recently hiked a fourteen mile loop in Boulder that hits all three major summits; South Boulder Peak, Bear Peak, and Green Mountain. At about the eleventh or twelth mile, I felt fatigued to the point of exhaustion, but found strength, as I usually do when hiking, through the unique opportunity to be alone with only nature, myself and my God.

A Hiker's Prayer

Oh Lord, guide me along Your paths. Make straight Your way before me. Set my foot firmly upon the sureness of the rock. Your glorious creation shouts your praise. The wonder of its beauty soothes my restless soul. Your love song to me is whispered in the high mountain wind and resonates along bubbling brooks.

Watch over me and protect me from all danger. Bring me safely home from Your majestic heights and walk beside me as I explore Your untamed wilderness. For You are my strength. You lift me on wings like eagle's and deliver me from harm. I will not grow faint or weary, for You are with me.

Let our communion continue here forever. Here in the quiet beauty of Your creation, let me sing Your love song back to You. You are the giver of all good things; everything I have, the very breath I breathe came from You and I use it now to sing Your praise.

When the way seems too steep, Jesus, You are my strength.
When danger lurks in unseen bends, Jesus, You are my strength.
When my body aches and I lose heart, Jesus, You are my strength.
When I feel like giving up, Jesus, You are my strength.
From my first step to my last, Jesus, You are my strength.
Jesus, You are my strength.

This is great and so are you. How can anyone look at our beautiful creation and not believe in God? Hi to Judy.
