mims much ado about nothing
My blog(by the way, that is an ugly word)could well be titled Diary of a widowed aged insomniac who is old enough to quit feeling guilty about her lack of housewifely virtues, cooking, yard work,etc...have reached the age when I want to reminise about the olden days, marvel in disbelef of the nowdays and I have so much to say about every day and noone to listen! Until the blog! I have a loving family, some of whom feel I am extremely witty and some of whom feel I am witless, but they all love me and they are all my very life. Nothing gives me more pleasure than causing them to chuckle or giggle and if i could do the same for others it would please me. A reader of some of my trials and tribulations that I intend to speak of need not fall on the floor in proxyisms of glee..but perhaps a small smile with which they can relate would be satisfying. My tales will all be true with just a wee bit of exaggeration caused by a quirky imagination and sense of humor that I would hope to impart. Will hope to keep them seasonal but I do go off on tangents. You youngsters skip my blogs....they will be meaningless...it is as we age that we need to be able to laugh at ourselves and the tricks that our minds and bodies have played on us. Laughter IS the best medicine...along with an aspirin or two perhaps.

Spring cleaning ... tradition or necessity?

I'm wondering if spring has sprung, and if it has then that would explain these wispy thoughts of the dreaded " spring cleaning" that must inevitably follow in the good housekeeping manual. What that could possibly have to to with me I have no idea unless it has to do with guilt and unkept new years resolutions. The timing of this time-honored tradition is very important I think.Last year I missed it entirely...oh, not the spring part but the cleaning part..so you might say I was too late to participate. But if I start now I might be too early, resulting in not having it last till next year, You see my quandry! But I decided to check things out in case I was struck by a bolt of sudden ambition..(you need to be ready because I have found that the following shock waves never last more than a day.) So i hurried to the closet where I last remember seeing my top of the line kirby vacuum cleaner with all the dozens of attachments and sure enough, peeking through old bowling balls, camera cases, slides and slide projectors, old galoshes and umbrellas, I spied a handle. But there was a problem....during the intervening years of non-use, Mr. Kirby had grow heavier and more unwIeldy and Ms Andersen had aged and become puny, both for the same reason.,,,non-use. Stalemate!I It stood to reason that what had taken years of shoving, jamming, stuffing into a small hall closet was not going to be undone in a matter of one Spring. So, putting my shoulder to the door I managed to wedge everything back into its former disarray till I heard the click of the latch....with all the ease,I imagine, of putting 20 lbs of manure into a sandwich bag. I remembered seeing an old vacuum in my basement, couldnt remember why so after a lengthy search hauled it upstairs to test it. It was covered in about two inches of dust and badly needed vacuuming but the inside bag was empty so plugged it in and pushed "start". I accomplished two things...the dogs screamed, jumped about 5 ft up in the air and out, (good, two things I wont have to sweep around)and neighbors came running to see my new Harley motorcycle...I made a couple of swaths over the carpet, saw no difference and decided the carpet must still be clean from previous spring cleanings, but to be safe i tossed a few crumbled crackers on the carpet, ran the sweeper back a forth over them a few times and lo and behold they scattered quite nicely and evenly ground. Apparently the machine had neither blow nor suck....just smash! So I unplugged the sweeper ,began the search for the broom (which I located in the box of Xmas decorations ready for trip to basement) see it cant be Spring...Xmas still here,,,decided to look for dust pan later as it was smaller and harder to find. Dragged the two dogs from under the bed where they got all dusty and , you guessed it, needed to be vacuumed badly. I am not hauling the sweeper back downstairs, for a wonder, but am putting it in my yard for the yard sale I am always going to have someday.Don;t worry, I won;t misrepresent it...I will advertise it as a light-weight combination dog scarer and hall closet stuffer!! An on SPECIAL sale sticker might be a good move. Now with my Spring cleaning started so early must go and catch up on a few computer games.
