Brighton Saturday Market and Downtown Live!!
How do you know summer has arrived? There are a few telltales: It's hot. It's dry. The kids are out of school. The swimming pools are full. You know the usual signs. But there's a new summer sight in Brighton and you don't have to look far to find it. We now have our very own outdoor market downtown. Oh, yeah, summer is officially here!
The weather was perfect as the Brighton Saturday Market opened June 21 st to an anxious crowd. Although the official opening time was 10:00 am, people gathered to see the final touches put on as vendors readied for the day. The fresh, organic produce generated much excitement as did the fresh dairy products brought from a local dairy. Local artist Judee Dickinson had several beautiful paintings on display which kept a crowd around her booth.
Among the best bargains at the market was the handmade soap. The chocolate bar soap smelled good enough to eat. Also available were natural soy candles, fresh herbs and potted herb gardens and hand-spun yarn. There were also fresh dairy products and lemonade provided by a favorite local dairy.
The aroma of kettle corn was in the air; those passing by on Highway 85 were drawn to the market by the heavenly smell.
Debuting this week at Brighton Saturday Market is all natural beef. Homestead Natural Beef Company will be featuring locally raised Highland Beef. Homestead's beef is raised without hormones, steroids, antibiotics and animal byproducts.
Also this week, the Leake family of Brighton presents Life Seed Company. Life Seed will have a variety of products each week throughout the summer. This week they are opening with garden seeds, sprouting seeds, herbs and gourmet popping corn. Life Seed will also provide a calendar of upcoming harvests to be featured in subsequent weeks. According to Laurie Leake, tomatoes and peaches are not far off and summer squash is right around the corner. This Brighton family is proud to share pesticide free, organically fertilized vegetables picked for the Brighton Saturday Market.
Another thing that makes Brighton's Saturday Market uniquely local and personal is the Brighton Downtown Live stage. Each week, promoter David Gallegos will set up a professional stage with a p.a. system and an emcee to host local talent.
This Saturday, the 5th of July, brings Don Prorak and his steel drum to add a Caribbean vibe to the Downtown Live stage. Also on hand will beGerman Folk Dancers from the Edelweiss Club out of Commerce City. Rounding out the afternoon will be the soothing country/popsounds of Robin JoLeady.
In addition to music, dance and theatrical acts, several artists are booked to 'play' the stage this summer. For painters and sculptors, Brighton Downtown Live sets them up in front of the stage, level with the crowd. Market visitors can then watch the artist at his or her craft and interact with the artists.
Lunch will be available (with seating!) at the Market. Local favorite Black Forest Bakery will be on site again this week with an assortment of goodies. Lauer Krauts, also from Brighton, will be featuring kraut burgers, hot dog wraps and German Sausage wraps.
Brighton welcomes you to spend Saturday with us. The Brighton Saturday Market is located on First Avenue and Strong Street in downtown Brighton. The Market is open from 10am to 2pm every Saturday through September 27 th.
