On Saturday, December 13 th, downtown Brighton comes alive with activities and sights for all ages. Kerasotes Theaters in the Brighton Pavilions will sponsor a free children's matinee movie at 10:00a.m. The Pavilions will also host Jingle Bell Jazz, a variety of local school and church music and vocal groups performing favorite holiday songs.
Restaurants and retailers along Main Street and Bridge Street downtown will open their doors, featuring holiday events, refreshments and sales. The Brighton Cultural Arts Commission and the heART of Brighton group will host a youth art exhibit and demonstrations of art, music and drama which highlight future attractions of the Armory Cultural Center. Winter Market vendors will also be open downtown, featuring great gift items for sale. Band-Tastic will feature a preview of the marching bands for this year's parade. At noon, on 1 st Avenue and Strong Street, the bands will give a free pre-parade performance. The Brighton Music Eight Carolers will also be downtown, filling the air with holiday sounds and making their way to the City Hall Winter Festival.
Beginning at 2:00p.m., Winter Festival at City Hall, 4 th Avenue and Bridge Street, is the hot-spot for families. Kids can run off pre-parade excitement and energy at a snow/hay bale maze. The Winter Festival also features free hay rides courtesy of Valley Bank and free entertainment on the Brighton Action Stage courtesy of Michael Ray Performing Arts Company. Adults will enjoy Cup' A History Tea and a tour of the historic City Hall building, courtesy of the Brighton Historic Preservation Committee. The Frolicking Fools Clown Troupe will entertain kids and arts and crafts activities will be provided as everyone awaits the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Santa will be available to hear wish lists. Photos with jolly old St. Nick are available for only $2.00.
At 4:30 p.m. on City Hall grounds, the mayor and city council members will count down and light a three-story evergreen tree covered in over 6,000 lights. Directly following the tree lighting, Festival of lights parade Grand Marshalls will be announced at the Main stage at 4 th Avenue and Bridge Street. At 5:00p.m., the 13 th Annual Parade of Lights will begin. The parade, featuring 75 lighted entries will start at Main Street and Denver Avenue and continue south then west onto Bridge Street to 10 th Avenue.
