People who inspired you (and how): My 83-year-old father has been a constant inspiration to me. As a young teenager he became handicapped, but in spite of his disability, he had a successful teaching/coaching career, is a master carpenter and has always been a positive influence on others.

How you have contributed to the community: I was a public school teacher for 29 years in Erie, Colorado, Meals on Wheel volunteer, VISTA volunteer, and a Sierra Club volunteer. I currently serve as the state representative for House District 31, vice-chair of the House Education Committee, chair of the 2006 House Select Committee on Renewable Energy, and a member of the Agriculture, Livestock, and Natural Resources Committee.

What are the biggest issues facing your constituency now: Economy and health care are the biggest issues facing my constituents. The middle class is struggling with increases in gas, food, mortgages, and healthcare and many have lost their jobs or face foreclosure.
