DENVER. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is once again a major sponsor of the 5th Annual Colorado Construction Career Days (CCCD), an event hosting 1,500 students and young people who are interested in careers in the construction industry. The event is being held on October 3rd and 4th at Adams County Fairgrounds from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
As part of a national effort to promote careers in construction, the event provides a "hands-on" experience where high school students in 10th through 12th grades can become better acquainted with career choices and opportunities in the construction industry.
By the year 2010, more than 200,000 new workers will be needed for the construction industry. With many skilled workers retiring, the future looks bright for students interested in building careers in construction.
"Our goal is to expose high school students and youth to building and highway construction, landscaping, architecture and engineering, craft trades and construction management so they are introduced to a wide range of possibilities for careers in construction," comments Debra Gallegos, manager of CDOT's Center for Equal Opportunity. "We want to increase the number of men and women entering the construction industry. These young people are critical to the future success of our transportation industry."
The academic community and previous attendees have commented that they are truly impressed by how the construction industry is able to provide such an interactive event while educating students on careers. It is a "one-of-a-kind" experience for students. Sponsors at this year's event contributed funds, equipment, time and talent.
