Bob & Karen Juenemann, owners of Make It Sew sewing & quilting machine shops in Broomfield & Englewood, hosted their first Sew-In at their Broomfield shop last weekend to benefit Firehouse Quilts, a charity quilting group based in Highlands Ranch/Littleton area.
More than 20 volunteers came to help sew quilt tops and learn how to use the long arm quilting machines.
The quilt donation box will be available at the Broomfield Make It Sew until the end of February so you still have time to complete a snuggle quilt and bring it in,
before we count how many were donated at that location.
Be sure you see all four pictures from the Sew-In in Broomfield to the right.
Firehouse Quilts volunteers donate snuggle quilts (about 45" square) to our local fire departments, victim advocate offices, social services and low income hospitals. Snuggle quilts are given to children that have been through traumatic events to show that someone cares.
The 2nd Sew-In will be at Make It Sew's Englewood location, 351 Englewood Parkway (in the old CinderellaCity shopping area) on Sunday, February 24th from 10a-3p. This event is free and is open to anyone that wants to help. To request a flyer with more information, email
firehousequilts@qwest.net.
Volunteers will sew quilt tops and have a chance to try out the long arm quilting machines in the shop. For each completed quilt, you can register to win a $100 Thread Gift Basket, provided by Make It Sew.
You don't even have to know how to quilt; if you can sew a straight line and want to help, this is the event for you! Kits have been assembled and all supplies are provided so you can just come in, sit down and start sewing.
Free instruction is provided to teach you how to use the long arm quilting machines so you'll be able to practice on the quilt tops donated.
Advance registration (303-761-4925) is requested so machines are available for all the volunteers. Space is limited so call soon. Although cash donations are always appreciated at Firehouse Quilts to help purchase supplies & tools, there is no charge for you to participate in the Sew-In.
Lunch is available for $10.
If you can't come to the Sew-In, you can still be eligible for the special prize drawing ($100 Thread Basket) on February 24th. Just donate a completed quilt(s), small (approx. 45" square) to twin size (approx. 68"x86") and drop it off at Make It Sew before or early in the day of the Sew-In.
Come Join the Fun at the Sew-In & help Firehouse Quilts!

FIREHOUSE QUILTS
Firehouse Quilts is a non-profit group of volunteers that make and donate snuggle quilts to local fire departments, hospitals, victim advocates offices and & twin size quilts to Battered Women's Shelters.
The quilts are given to moms & children in time of crisis.
Browse their website,
www.firehousequilts.org for pictures and short articles, similar to this one, of their quilt deliveries.
Since 2003, Firehouse Quilts has donated nearly 2,000 quilts to 28 different fire districts in Colorado and 17 other non-emergency organization that work with children in crisis. Children receiving snuggle quilts might have been in a car wreck, a house fire and a victim of domestic abuse. The firefighters and people in charge of the other organizations have complete control as to when they give one of these quilts to a child in crisis.
Quilts are available to any fire department in Colorado so if you know of a fire station that doesn't have quilts from this group, have their 'chief'
contact Dusty Darrah at
firehousequilts@qwest.net or
303-683-6455 to set up delivery.
Dusty is also the contact if you want to participate in the bi-monthly (1st & 3rd Thursdays) Sew Days that Firehouse Quilts has every month at the NorthridgeRecCenter, 8801 S Broadway, Highlands Ranch, CO.
