If you weren't in the Keenesburg Colorado park on the 3rd of July, you missed a bet! I almost did. I was invited by a friend to attend the 4th of July festivities held there on the 3rd, for some reason, and because my social calendar was less than full (if you suggest empty you have been peeking), I accepted.
With no expectations....because of my age (none of your beeswax) and soooooo many firework displays over the years, I'm afraid my "oohs and ahs" had turned into "hos and hums". Don't get me wrong...beautiful yes, but sort of seen one, seen 'em all. But lil' 'ol Keensburg was different! How you ask? Three little words...The Collins Family. We were entertained from dusk till dark with their beautiful, quality, singing. Headliners, Dad
Mike
, whose singing can hold its own with the likes of
Dean Martin
,
Elvis
you know who,
Charley Pride
and many others and newly recorded daughter
Sammi
, a joy to listen to, and daughter
Holly
, who fits right in when she wants to. Mom
Dottie
stays quietly in the background "singing" their praises, as well she might. To tell the truth I hated for the singing to stop and the fireworks to start. Mike had a huge part in the success of the fireworks, too by incorporating a disc of "starwars" like music and patriotic music fitting into each display. Truly awe inspiring!
So thanks,Keenesburg, firemen, Collins, and all who made it a grand evening. I am reserving a piece of grass for next year.....and will keep my fingers crossed i'm on it and not under it.
