In the past 30 years, Pete Palombo's Roadside Market has become more than a detour for passersby on Highway 85 - it has become a specific destination for folks all over Adams County and beyond.
"You should be here on a Saturday," one market worker said. "It's packed."
Open daily from June until October,
Pete
and
Jackie Palombo
and a handful of workers keep the bins and shelves of the outdoor shaded market stocked with fresh, home-grown fruits, vegetables, spices and preservatives.
Karen Henderson
, of Broomfield, and her grandson Dillon
Laughlin
, 4, of Wheat Ridge were two shoppers to visit the market July 25.
"We're having an adventure day," Henderson said. "We're learning new things."
The two wandered around the market, stopping periodically for Henderson to show Laughlin how to tell if a watermelon was ripe, pick out corn and have him tell the difference between green and wax beans.
The market's produce is farmed by the Palombo family on 35 acres next to the market and 360 more acres in Platteville.
