My husband and I always look forward to Valentine's Day as our anniversary is just around the corner from that date! Next month, we will celebrate 42 years of marriage and have enjoyed and loved each other more today than yesterday.
I had gone to California to make a fresh start and had gotten an apartment in a nice new singles complex. The apartment managers were having a party to have everyone meet everyone else. My roommate and I were looking out the window, and saw these 2 guys on the stairs...I said I'd take "that one" and Nancy said she would take the other one. "That one" is the one I am with today!
We went down to the pool for the party and he threw my roommate in the pool, so I thought he liked her and not me! He offered me a beer and I hated beer, but took one anyhow! We talked and had a great time the rest of the day.
Later that evening, he asked me to take a ride to a friend's house to get his sunglasses that he had left there. I sorta reluctantly went but we had a good time and on the way back, stopped at the Wayfarer's Chapel at Portuguese Bend.
Wayfarers Chapel is a gorgeous glass church overlooking the Pacific Ocean. We walked around and sat down on the steps and talked and talked and really seemed to hit it off! I said, of all things..."What a beautiful place to be married"...well, a year and a half later, we were married there! In that year and a half leading up to our marriage tho, we had so many good times and lots of fun together. He asked me to marry him going 65 mph on the San Diego Freeway and I could not get the word "yes" out fast enough!
We have had a wonderful 42+ years and have been blessed with 3 children and now doubly blessed with 7 grandchildren. Forty two years ago, we both found our true soul mates! It has been a wonderful ride and we look forward to many many more together.
