House burns in Brighton after lightning strike
Contributed by: Local Color Magazine on 8/4/2006

Courtesy Linda Young:

Not the kind of Local Color any of us like to see.

This house fire occurred in Todd Creek Estates on Aug. 3. This photo was taken about 2:10 p.m., right after I called 911. They said they had been called and had a truck on the way. It arrived at 2:16 p.m. (times are according to my cell phone).

Apparently they did not have a truck at the Havana Fire Station at the time. Very sad, I'm sure the home was a total loss. The part in flames is the garage.

Just in case you were thinking about running a story on why we really need to vote for the Greater Brighton Fire Protection District's request for a tax increase.... This was five blocks from my house.

Courtesy Fran Ayars:

Mike and Julie Simpson, who live at 9729 E. 147th Ave., lost their home to fire, after the house was struck by lightning. There home is estimated to be unlivable for 3-6 months, and they will obviously be dislocated during this time.

WOW! Michael and Julie I can't believe this is actually a picture of your house burning! Michael I can't believe that you where in the house when the lightning hit. You are lucky to be alive. I love you both, Your sister and sister-in-law. Jena

Incredible picture. Really drives home the risk we all face. You don't have to live in the boonies to face fire devastation.
