Contributed by: Adams County on 2/25/2008

The Adams County Workforce & Business Center, in partnership with Front Range Community College, Workforce Boulder County, Employment Services of Weld County, the Center for Transportation Safety and BJ Services, will collaborate on a grant project entitled "Ensuring Oil Extraction for Adequate Energy: A Model for Advanced Oil Services Industry Training."

The project is one of ten selected to receive funding from the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) grant received from the United States Department of Labor. The funding request for the project was approximately $200,000. The funding is currently being negotiated and should be finalized in time to begin the project in early spring.

The grant will facilitate the recruitment, training and employment of 150 heavy equipment operators, material handlers and drivers in the oil and gas extraction industry. Workers will be recruited from across the WIRED metro region, which includes Adams, Boulder and Weld counties.

For additional information about the WIRED grant project, please contact Chris Kline, administrator of the Workforce & Business Center, at 303.453.8629.
