Reward jumps to $13,000 in sex assault case
Contributed by: YourHub.com on 4/24/2006

BRIGHTON -- Local utility provider United Power Inc. has added $2,000 to a reward for anyone with information on two separate rapes that occurred within a week of one another.

The contribution brings the reward up to $13,000.

City council voted unanimously April 18 to increase the reward to $11,000 for anyone with information that leads to the capture and arrest of three suspects believed to be involved in two sex assaults.

"The city council considers the brazen actions of the three perpetrators as an extreme insult to the community and this city council," said council member Elias Huerta in a press release.

Local businessman Jack Sampson has also offered $1,000 to the reward.

Two women were sexually assaulted within five days of one another in the Sugar Creek subdivision and police believe the two cases are connected.

A teenage girl was sexually assaulted April 10 in the early evening in near the intersection of Maple Circle and Hottman Street. The suspects were described as three Hispanic males in their late teens.

Police believe a second assault that took place April 15 was likely committed by the same three suspects. This time the victim was an adult woman, who was walking outside near Watada Drive and Watada Street.

The victim described the perpetrators as three young men, one Caucasian and two Hispanics. Overall the descriptions are very similar, according to police.

All had dark hair and were wearing dark clothing. There is no vehicle associated with the suspects.

It is possible the suspects may have been involved in other activity outside the Sugar Creek subdivision, according to police.

Detectives are currently working on leads that have come in. So far approximately 30 tips are being reviewed. There have been no arrests in the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Brighton Police Department at 303-655-2300. In addition, Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward in the case. Anyone with information can call 720-913-STOP. Informants may remain anonymous.
