Information for parents and schools...
Contributed by: Mr Matthew Faas on 6/5/2008

Hello and good day to all,

One Word, One Love is now accepting new elementary schools to participate in our student newspaper next fall. Our program has been called "an authentic reason to embark upon the writing process" by gifted and talented teacher Loralie Cole and the "right type fund-raiser" by the Denver Post. Through our program your students will strive for their best, build confidence in their scholastic abilities, and provide them with "the most memorable and worthwhile learning experiences of your students' school career" (Loralie Cole).

About us: We publish a newspaper twice a year that is completely written and illustrated by the participating elementary school students. This is a free program for your school to take advantage of the opportunity to raise much needed funds through educational means, versus the normal candy bars and candles.

Your school: You can reassure the parents and community that you are taking every opportunity to educate, even into the realm of fund-raising. To start, we will give your students 5 copies each to take home to friends, family, and neighbors but if you think you can sell more, we will give you more. Whatever your school can raise from selling the paper is 100% yours to keep and use for whatever the school needs. To think if each of your students can raise $5 or $10 from their 5 issues each, would that be a worthy program? If you multiply that by two and add a lot of student confidence and a lot of school pride, you will get a bi-annual program that raises funds for something that has everything to do with education. Read our principal and teacher testimonials, previous issues, the FAQ's and the fun on-line at www.onewordonelove.org (NEW WEBSITE!).

Your community: We offer a chance to directly involve the community in support your school. Individuals can be seen in the paper as a supporter and businesses are able to show their support too (see our website and past issues). Your community will be relieved to see your school taking the initiative and giving your students the best opportunities available. The community really enjoys this publication because we all want to see what life is like through the eyes of a child, and they get a kick out of the advertisements too.

What is needed?

We will assign schools a word count to distribute to the participating students and some illustrations to draw. Your school will be responsible for editing, and what you submit to us is exactly what will go into the paper. Abiding to the deadlines and agreement to accept at least 5 copies per student with intent to raise funds for your school is all we ask.

Possibilities:

- You can distribute the word count to all grades.

- You can assign the word count to the 5-6 th grades.

- You can assign the word count to a gifted and talented class.

- You can assign the illustrations to the art class

- You can create an after school program

After school programs are a valuable asset for any school but are quickly becoming a luxury. After school programs are established to give students a positive and educational experience that they will build on to grow as a student and a person.

One Word, One Love offers this unrivaled program to all elementary schools, for free.

Deadline to sign your school up is September 1 st, 2008. Please contact us through our website or the email address below with any questions you have.

Thanks and have a great summer!
