BRIGHTON--At approximately 6:57 am on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 fire crews were toned to a structure fire at 3060 E Bridge, Eastgate Mobile Home Park. The fire was called in by a neighbor who saw the smoke coming from the mobile home.
The residents, who were sleeping when the fire started, were awakened by the smoke detectors and immediately evacuated.
Crews arrived on scene of the fire just 4 minutes after they were initially dispatched. After they arrived on scene, Lieutenant
Forbes and Firefighter
Carson pulled a hose line and quickly went to work on the fire. Fire crews made entry to the home through the front door and were able to get a quick attack on the fire.
The quick response from fire crews ensured that quite a bit of the family's personal belongings are salvageable. Due to the construction of mobile homes, fires in these homes tend to be fast moving fires, and saving a large portion of the home can only be attributed to swift reaction by fire crews. Fire crews were able to contain this fire to the front portion of the home.
Lieutenant
Porterfield, Engineer Dave
DiLorenzo, Lieutenant
Chris Forbes and Firefighter
Kevin Carson were the first on scene. Two engines and one ladder truck along with 10 other firefighters were on scene to help with extinguishing the fire and overhauling the damaged areas to check for any hot spots and areas that may potentially reignite.
The family was taken care of by Brighton Police Department Victim's Advocates and will be staying with family while they evaluate their situation.
The actual cause of the fire is still under investigation, but is believed to have started outside the home.
