Fire department bids farewell to reservist

Crew members with the North Metro Fire Rescue District gave a proper sendoff last week for an engineer heading overseas to serve the country.

North Metro Fire Engineer Don Woodmansee is being deployed to Afghanistan, where he will serve a minimum of one year.

Fire Chief Joseph Bruce placed a Double Blue Star Blue Banner at Station 64 in Broomfield on Oct. 20 to show the district's support while Woodmansee is away.

A fellow firefighter, Mike Anderson, also was deployed in August 2009 and a Single Blue Star Banner was placed on the apparatus prior to his departure. This new symbol notes that two people in the "family" are serving overseas.

Woodmansee has served in previous deployments to Louisiana for post-Hurricane Katrina efforts, Iraq for 15 months as well as a mission to support NATO operations during an eight month deployment to Yugoslavia.
