Rangeview Library District has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the State of Colorado's Department of Local Affairs for use at the district's new Brighton Branch Library building, which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2009.
This grant award will provide funding toward the installation of a 100kw solar photovoltaic system for the new 20,000-square-foot Brighton Branch Library, operated by Rangeview Library District in the new Brighton Cultural Center downtown redevelopment project. Paired with the library's U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification building practices and the geothermal mechanical system, this will result in a reduction from 475,000 kWh/year to 105,630 kWh/year in electricity demand for the library.
"We're honored to be a recipient of this prestigious and competitive grant award from Governor
Ritter and the Department of Local Affairs," says Rangeview Library District director
Pam Sandlian Smith. "From the very beginning, it has been our goal to not only create community gathering places but to also make our libraries as sustainable as possible. This grant helps us to do just that."
Rangeview Library District's goal is to reduce its carbon footprint by 78 percent through these energy efficiencies. The district is thoughtfully investing in practices and technologies that create sustainable buildings.
