To provide more cost-effective and efficient services to residents, the Adams County Board of Commissioners consolidated the Social Services and Community & Economic Opportunity departments into the Adams County Human Services Department in public hearing on Wednesday, July 8, 2009.
"The services provided by these two departments were very interrelated," said commissioner chairman Larry W. Pace. "By combining them, we will be able to enhance public understanding of and access to programs and services while coordinating expertise and oversight of contracting and grant processes."
The Community & Economic Opportunity Department provided services in community development, early education and workforce assistance. The Social Services Department provided a multitude of related public assistance programs from child welfare services to food assistance and Medicaid eligibility.
The Human Services Department will better coordinate and streamline these service areas into one cohesive unit. The new department's director will be Dr. Don Cassata, former Social Services Department director.
