Assault report deemed suspicious. A 32-year-old Commerce City man claimed he was assaulted Oct. 8, but his story appeared fishy. The man stated he was attacked by a man wearing a black ski mask at about 7:45 p.m. in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 5990 Dahlia St., Commerce City. But the man displayed no visible injuries and employees nearby said they hadn't seen or heard anything.
Resident reports scam. A Northglenn woman reported a possible scam to police Oct. 8 involving a job Web site. The woman, who lives on the 11800 block of Washington Street, stated she received a fraudulent $2,100 cashier's check after answering an ad for a nanny job on www.care.com.
Elderly woman reports abuse. A Northglenn woman told police her 81-year-old husband pushed her down the staircase of their home on the 10600 block of Brewer Drive on Sept. 25. She sustained a broken arm during the fall. The case was forwarded to investigations.
Driver runs into semi. On Oct. 16 at about 5:30 p.m., Commerce City Police Department responded to a report of an accident on the 5700 block of Highway 85. A driver exiting from westbound I-270 onto northbound Highway 85 lost control of their vehicle, a 2003 Buick. The Buick crossed the northbound lanes of Highway 85 and collided with a southbound semi with an empty fuel tanker trailer. The driver of the Buick was transported by ambulance to the hospital due to minor injuries from the accident. Police are investigating whether alcohol or a medical condition contributed to the accident.
Dog breeder warned. A woman who purchased a puppy from a Commerce City dog breeder filed a complaint with police when the animal died shortly after she purchased it. The woman told police she bought a Chihuahua from a breeder who lives on the 6100 block of Ivy Street. She said the breeder sold the dog, which died of Parvovirus, even though it was only three weeks old. Police gave her a warning.
Juveniles cited for starting fire. Two juveniles were issued summonses Oct. 18 after they were suspected of starting a brush fire near 100th Avenue and Washington Street in Thornton. The fire burnt five acres of weeds and cattails.
