Candidate profile: John Lefebvre
Contributed by: John Lefebvre on 8/29/2006

My name: John R. Lefebvre, Jr.

Age: 52

My family: My wife Rebecca and I have been married for nearly 30 years, and we have two daughters and three grandsons. All of us were raised and educated in Adams County Schools.

What I do: I am the Adams County Treasurer and I make the operation of government more efficient.

My favorite place in town to hang out: My home.

What I like most about living here: I love the weather, the views and most of all, the people.

My interests and hobbies: I am a woodworker and past vice president of the Colorado Woodworkers Guild. I also enjoy creating visual art with pastels.

What is my favorite thing to cook: I enjoy barbecuing just about anything.

People who inspired me (and how): Abraham Lincoln was an inspiration to me because he asked people who were some of his harshest critics to join his Cabinet and he heeded their advice. Lincoln eventually earned the respect of these people.

How I have contributed to the community: I sat on the Board of the Adams County Cultural Council where (with the other council members) I reviewed grant requests and dispensed SCFD funding to worthy cultural, arts and scientific projects.

I have served a term and I am currently in my second term on the 17th Judicial Performance and Review Commission. There, with the other commissioners, I review the performance of judges in the 17th judicial district and make recommendations to the citizens of that district whether a judge should be retained in office or not.

I was the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the College Access Network, the State Enterprise organization that dispenses government guaranteed student loans. During the Board's 18-month duration, this State Enterprise organization went from being subsidized to profitability. The organization was then privatized and the State received $40 million and will probably receive another $2 million annually in profit sharing for the next 10 years.

What are the biggest issues facing community now: One of the biggest issues for Adams County is how it will fund the expansion of its justice center, which is at capacity, and how it will finance a new 170,000 -quare-foot campus. Growth over the past few decades has pushed services from the county into many far flung buildings around the county. The county would like to once again have a centralized place to conduct business for its citizens.

The other big issue is un-jamming traffic bottlenecks so that there is less congestion on our roads. New and improved infrastructure investment will be a key toward the county realizing its future economic potential.
