Candidate profile: Diane Christner
Contributed by: Diane Christner on 9/29/2006

Diane Christner is running for county treasurer.

My name: Diane C. Christner

Age: 46

My family: I havethree children, Jason (24), Rebekah (22) and Jeromy (18), who were born and raised in Colorado, mostly in Adams County. I also have a brother, mother and stepfather who live in Colorado and a brother, his wife and 2 nephews in Connecticut.

What I do: A better question is what don't I do. I am currently runningthree businesses, including: maintaining, repairing and remodelingfour rental properties, tax accounting for several individuals, doing financial accountingand managing a business called "WhichCraft", which sells merchandize and handmade crafts.
I also run a catering business with my mother for individuals and groups, including the Red Hats. I work for a country club in their catering facility and I was recently a sale representative for several manufacturers selling wholesale to retail stores and outlets.

My favorite place in town to hang out: Home. I love sitting on my porch looking up at the stars & listening to music, spending time with my family & friends playing cards and watching movies.

What I like most about living here: The mountains and the weather. I love the fact that you can go on vacation and yet not be far from home. I like the individuals that live here also because they care about their community and their families.

My interests and hobbies: I like to bowl, play cards, watch movies, bake, crochet, needle point, and spend time with my family.

What is my favorite thing to cook: I like to cook pork chops in mushroom gravy and spaghetti, but I love to bake bread, especially Swedish Limpa and French bread and my number one favorite, brownies.

People who inspired me (and how): My mother, because she has always told me that I could do anything as long as I set my mind to it. I believe that I enjoy challenges and that if anyone ever tells me that I can't do something I will prove them wrong.

How I have contributed to the community: I have always been involved with the schools, because I believe in education and kids come first, they are our future. I have also been involved in boy scouts, girl scouts and cub scouts, while my kids were growing up and would still be involved if I had more time. I am still helping out with the senior citizens and adults with alzheimer's.

What are the biggest issues facing community now: we need more open space for our children to have a place to be. There also needs to be a place for kids to go and to keep busy instead of getting into trouble or finding ways to drop out of school. We need to get more interested in our children and also in the small business person so that we can help our future improve.
