Blog Entry 8 of 19 It's Mommy's Turn To Talk
A chance for one mommy to get a word in and a moment to reflect.

A little bit of good, a little bit of bad

I have been dying to blog this week. Truly. I have so many bloggable ( is that a word? ) things to share.

It's not all good news either. I hope you are prepared. You know life isn't always fun and easy, and I think we have to be honest about that. If you walk around pretending it's all roses and sunshine, you are only fooling yourself.

So let's start with the bad news.

I found a white hair on my chin. It was alone, and small, but nonetheless, it was there. It put me in a bit of a bad mood too. I wasn't expecting this yet. I'm barely 37, and have somehow managed to maintain a bit of youthliness about me. And no, I don't shop at Forever 21. Anyway, a chin hair. I'm working through it, and I know I will be okay. Dark days will not prevail.

Another bit of bad news: Jack, my 9 year old didn't invent anything useful at Invention Camp. He brought home something like a boat made out of aluminum foil, and I asked him how it will help me clean the house. He said it wouldn't but that he "learned to work together and that inventing is fun". Next summer he's going to "Learn how to help your mom clean the house, and save yourself $185.00"camp.

The other bad news is combined with good news. I have a terrible sunburn on my upper thighs-that's the bad news, but the good news part is that I finally made it to The Bay. Yep, I know, I know. I've been a mom over 9 years and have avoided that place like nothing else, 'cept maybe Walmart. Everyone has told me over and over how amazing The Bay is, like it's the next best thing to the beach. Well, as a mom of three kids who scare me in water, I did not participate. But this year Jack and Faith have improved in the water enough that I decided it was time. And it was glorious. The kids loved every minute of it, and even though I had to get a line of credit in order to go ( I'm not a Broomfield resident), it was worth every penny. That night my babies slept like kitties in the sun. Totally divine.

More good news: I didn't ruin Father's Day. I almost did when I told Billy, in front of my friend, that his hair was in an awkward phase. I recovered though by apologizing over and over and telling him I love it. After that I was on my best behavior and took my man to Bass Pro Shop to buy a new watch. About a jillion other dads were there as well. But we made it through the crowds and he came home with a fancy new watch. He felt bad because we spent money on him, but I told him over and over how much he deserved it. Then I told him I'd not eat this week if it made him feel better. It did not.

After Bass Pro, the five of us went to the fancy park in Stapleton. It's got all kinds of crazy stuff and the kids were in heaven. Billy played Republic Commando with them, and my job was to make sure no one got left behind.

Billy celebrated Father's Day this year in style, by the way. On Friday my dad and his wife showed up in front of our house in their bus. Yeah, a bus. Not a motor home, not a 5th wheel, a BUS. Like the kind country music stars go on tour in. So we all packed in and drove to Cheyenne to my sister's. The kids were in heaven laying on a huge bed watching t.v as we drove up I-25. Coming home the next day we had to make some rules at the beginning of the trip, that we had neglected to do the day before. They were only allowed to "relocate" in the bus twice, on the drive home. Potty breaks didn't count, but water breaks did. It was a much quieter drive home, than going.

More news: (this is neither good nor bad, it's just news) I'm no longer blonde. I'm a brunette.

More good news: Today I took my second A & P test and totally rocked it. It was a huge test, like the size of Kansas, but I studied very hard, and what do you know? It paid off. I was pleased.

That's about it over here. I hope your weekend is full of roses and sunshine.

Fun story. I'm glad Lisa finds the time to write.

Just have Jack talk to Will. He's Asian, you know. I'm pretty sure he can help Jack invent something a little more useful next year at camp.

I just discovered Lisa's Blog! What fun! Very entertaining!
