The Seth Files
My name is Seth and I am the community journalist for the Arvada/Wheat Ridge area. Instead of trying to narrow my blog down to a specific topic, I figure I might as well just wing it and see what happens. And since this is my first attempt ever at blogging, I hope you will take the plunge with me and start your own blog.

I'm currently reading a book that is simply titled
Gig
. The premise of the book is simple: A wide selection of people in this country speak openly and honestly about their jobs. While it might not sound too intriguing from my description, the things I have learned are pretty fascinating.
From reading some people's stories, it has become apparent that some jobs I thought would be amazing really aren't. Conversely, some occupations that don't immediately spring to mind when thinking about dream jobs are pretty cool.
The reason I mention
Gig
is because the May 31 Faces of Broomfield and Westminster edition we will be publishing has the potential to be just as great. You can choose someone who works a seemingly interesting job in Broomfield or Westminster or has an unusual hobby and write about that person. Your subject can be someone you know, or someone you just want to know more about - a local firefighter or veterinarian, for example.
To have your story considered for the Saturday, May 31 section, you just need to submit it online at YourHub.com by May 22. To see how members of the Denver community came together to highlight their neighbors, go to
http://denver.yourhub.com/facesofdenver
.
I also want to remind you that you are invited to contribute stories and photos for our special May 22 graduation edition, as well as the following May 29 print section. In addition to running lists of graduating seniors from high schools in your community, we will feature as many of your graduation-related stories and photos as possible.
Students can write stories saying so long to their favorite teachers or classmates, or relive their favorite high school memories. Parents can congratulate their kids on their momentous achievement or submit photos from graduation parties, rehearsals or ceremonies. Teachers are welcome to recognize individual students or classes. The possibilities are endless.

OK, I missed D-Day too, but the Fourth of July is just around the corner.

Thanks,Seth, but I missed the deadline. I still want to do a Faces of Arvada story on Lew Weltzer of Arvada who was at Pearl Harbor in December of 1941. I have not had a chance to meet with him yet, but I thought it might be a nice piece before the D-Day Memorial coming up. Watch for it!
