The
Colorado Wind Ensemble
begins its 27th season with a variety of
Wind Dances
on Saturday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m. at Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 S. Datura St. in Littleton.
Leonard Bernstein's "cool" bop and mambo from
West Side Story
dances are the perfect foil for Stravinsky's
Circus Polka
, with international flair provided by Malcolm Arnold's
Four Scottish Dances
and Adam Gorb's
French Dances Revisited
. The dancing escalates to a frenzy with Philip Sparke's wild
Dance Movements
and settles into easy familiarity with Robert Russell Bennett's
Suite of Old American Dances
.
Tickets at the door are $12 general adult, $10 seniors and students, and $6 children 12 and under. A $2-per-ticket discount is available with a credit card purchase by phone 24 hours in advance of the concert. Please call 303-394-4552 for tickets, and visit the website at
www.coloradowindensemble.org
for more information about the CWE.
The Colorado Wind Ensemble is devoted to presenting fresh new music and worthy classics for woodwinds, brass, and percussion to Denver audiences. The musicians of the CWE have fun with programming, but maintain a serious attitude toward quality - over 75 percent of the wind band's players have degrees in music, 40 percent have advanced music degrees, and over half are music teachers or other music professionals. Conductor Matthew J. Roeder, DMA, is the assistant conductor of bands at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
