July 7 is National Chocolate Day

Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day have long since past. Christmas is too far in the future. Unfortunately short of a summer birthday, there's a gaping void in the gift-giving schedule that starts in mid-June and lasts well, just short of forever (especially if you're under the age of 12, or was that 40). Some people might well be relieved, but others understand that joy comes from giving, and why wait until Christmas to experience a little charitable bliss?

Thankfully, someone had the foresight to create National Chocolate Day in the midst of July. All things considered, it was most likely a conspicuous CFO from the chocolate industry who realized that chocolate sales typically fall off in summer. It's not such a mystery that people don't think about buying chocolate in the blazing heat of summer. In fact summers of late (the hottest on record) mean even M&M's melt in your hand, not in your mouth. None-the-less, chocolatiers worldwide are relieved to see that now there's an excuse to give chocolate in July...not that we ever needed an excuse of course.

But if you still need a little coaxing, consider these facts: 1. Increasing demand for quality chocolates has prompted chocolate companies to come up with creative ways to package chocolate insuring its puddle-free delivery to your doorstep. 2. More than 50 million people put chocolate as their favorite flavor, meaning that one out of every four people will absolutely love your gift, while the rest will put it as number two or three on their list of favorites. 3. Worried that a chocolate lover might already have enough chocolate? Not true. They've already eaten everything you gave them on the last holiday.
