Why Congress fails and how to correct it

Congress consists of the Senate, 98 members, 49 Democrats and 49 Republicans of whom VP Cheney is President. The House of Representatives consists of 435 members, 233 Democrats and 202 Republicans, with Speaker of the House Nancy Polosi in charge. Overall, the Democrats hold a 53% majority over a 47% Republican minority. Not enough to make a difference. Just before the Congressional elections, the Democratic constituency drew up a few mandates to be followed by their prospective candidates should they be elected. Some as follows: End the Iraq War, increase health insurance, control illegal immigration and impeach President Bush.

Nancy Polosi immediately threw impeachment out the window. She fully realized the Democrats would not get a majority vote sufficient to do the job. So she threw herself and her fellow Democrats into ending the war. Therewere many Republicans who joined her in this effort. With every proposal they presented, there were not enough Republicans to approve it to override a veto and fully realizing the Bush White House would veto the proposal, it was closed.
So the second effort was to cut the war funding. But then the Democrats and Republicans did not want to cut off needed supplies to our boys overseas. When they did put together a proposal (that included bringing them home) that even many Republicans agreed with, it was not sufficient to override the presidential veto.

The Republicans and the President exacerbate, promote and enjoy the failure of the Democrats. Even at the expense of American lives and well-being.
How to correct this: Vote Democrat the next election. Elect sufficient members in Congress that are Democrat that they can override any President, whether it be Democrats or Republican. End the War. Bring our troops home. Spend the $1.6 trillion we are spending in Iraq at home to cover our uninsured, improve our schools, remodel our ailing bridges, water and sewer mains and roads, assist with college scholarships, control our borders. Let's do something for America, not corporate America.
