I BELIEVE I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT
After reading Newsweek, Time, Readers Digest, Newspapers, watching business and other news on CNN and Fox I believe I may have figured it out and came to this conclusion. It is not profound or surprising but it clarifies my thinking.
1.We know that big business, corporations et al in the past and currently constantly fight government rules and regulation in addition to unions, environmentalists, animal rights activists, etc. etc. because it hampers their profit margins. They don't want anyone to control their unreasonable bonus' to their CEO's and favored employees. They don't want anyone to tell them to clean up their own messes, to clean up emissions, to prevent habitat elimination. It all draws down on their profit margin. Health care Insurance providers want to maintain the high salaries of their CEO's and administrative staff. They don't want to compete with a government run Insurance plan. This is what the Republicans constantly propagate to the public as "Socialism". Among other things they tout to prevent any Democratic Administration success at the expense of low income Americans.
2. Hence, these corporate moguls have recruited the Republican party to lobby, and convince their constituency to vote for their politicians who will fight and promote legislation that will allow the ills that prevent the bottom line. To further convince their constituency, they propagate "family values, compassionate conservatism and American patriotism". These values if truly held, believed and practiced are genuinely wholesome. But these corporate supported politicians should not use these values and at the same time hypocritically fight to prevent practical, environmental and social ills. Oil spills, mining contaminated water, air pollution, elimination of species and medical treatment.
3.However, I am not totally happy with Democrats either. They need to take another hard look at their views on abortion, gun control and gay rights. All of these issues are another subject altogether.
Walter Cronkite who recently passed away, was considered the most trusted man in news. One of the most profound statements Walter said at one of his last newscasts was "One of the most important things I have learned in my lifetime of news casting is that the American people come together in a time of crisis."
Are we not now at a crisis? We have 50 million Americans without health insurance, we have over 10% unemployment, we have over 10,000 gun deaths a year, we have home foreclosures, tent cities and food shortages. It is time for all politicians to come together, not for the sake of corporations, not for the sake of their political future but for the sake of the American people and make solid, meaningful legislation.
