Martha Stewart look out! This year North Metro Fire Rescue wants to see the talents of local crafters in the first annual Gingerbread Safety House competition. Broomfield residents, regardless of age, are eligible submit an entry at the North Metro Winter Fest on December 6, 2005.
“We are looking for creative, edible houses that demonstrate as many safety features that the builders can think of,” said Wendy Krajewski, Public Information Officer for North Metro Fire Rescue. “Citizens can build them in teams or individually and bring them to the Winter Festival to enter them into the competition.”
North Metro Fire Rescue will award the top three Gingerbread Safety Houses with prizes. The competition is designed to encourage citizens to think about safety at home and design an evacuation plan for a structure while having lots of fun! “By finding an entertaining way to look at home safety, we hope that people will apply it to their own lives,” said Krajewski.
People interested in participating should bring their completed Gingerbread Safety House to the Winter Festival at Broomfield Community Center (280 Lamar Street). Entries should be submitted no later than 7:00 p.m. Prizes will be announced at the end of the evening. Only one structure can be submitted per person. All entries must include a floor plan of the Gingerbread Home with an evacuation plan! (Assistance with Evacuation Plans will be available at the Winter Festival).
North Metro Fire Rescue is dedicated to your quality care. North Metro Fire Rescue provides fire protection, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response and rescue services to their community. Formed in 1945, the district now covers 115 square miles with a population of approximately 90,000 people including the City and County of Broomfield, the City of Northglenn and unincorporated areas of Boulder, Adams and Jefferson Counties.
