Are we all having fun yet? Legacy is the place!
Contributed by: Paul Madigan on 7/21/2008

The farmer's market at Legacy High School has almost come full circle. It is totally amazing at how the community has come out to support this wonderful farmer's market. This week we are hoping to get a NHRA dragster at the market for everyone to get an up-close look; and believe it or not, the driver is from Broomfield. I will keep you updated, so watch the Legacy parking lot on Saturdays for this wonderful surprise guest.

Coming Saturday July 26, we will have several brand new vendors as we continue to grow. Remember, if you know a vendor, artist or craft person, just have them give me a call and we will work hard as we can to help them promote their product. Last Saturday we had 8 tents for all the vendors. This week we hope to grow to 14 tents at the si
Last Saturday Mr. Paul Madigan gave some hints on how to cut your fresh flowers and preserve longer. To his amazement there were many who have their own little secret ways of caring for fresh cut flowers.

So here are some great ways to preserve your beautiful cut flowers: Always be sure to cut the stem on an angle, (not straight across as many do), once the flowers are cut, place in water in less than a minute, this prevents the stem from getting an air bubble that will restrict the flow of water up the stem to the flower. (It may also be easier if you cut the fresh flowers in loop warm water, this also helps keep the air bubble out.) Then, as my neighbor has suggested, put a little sugar in with your fresh cut flowers and then sit back and watch them sparkle the room. Please don't put any soda product in the water, (like sprite); it shocks the flower for a few days and then causes a rapid end to the fresh cut flower's life. Please, if you know any other secret ways that you wish to pass on, add it to the comments below and I thank you for your suggestions.

The range of beautiful flower has amazed a lot of market goers this year: Carnations, pixies, too; roses, gerbera daisy, hypericum, football mums, alstomeria fancy, oriental lily, rose stray, kale stems, peony, protea-leucodendron, asiatic lily and solidasters. You never know what flowers we may have in the near future. So come on out and see just how beautiful our arrangements are. And believe me, one single flower can make all the difference in a person's day. Just come on out to the farmer's market and see for yourself.

Remember, Mr. Madigan will always take the time to help you with caring for your arrangements as well as to learn from you and your own special way of caring for fresh cut flowers.

Thanks again to everyone for their support of the Legacy farmer's market and we all look forward to seeing you this Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This week's alert: Peaches and cream corn are in from the western slope; also, the western slope peaches are a little slow growing this year. The crop is do to be picked in the first week of August, but we will have fresh peaches coming from Weld County in the next two weeks as well.

Farm Fresh eggs from Weld County are now available at the farmer's market.
*** We now donate all produce and flowers to Fish, which is Broomfield outreach program for assisting those in need. We are proud thatShirley McGuinness lets the Legacy Farmer's Market work with her excellent program.
