On Sunday, June 24th, blue-shirted Colorado Democrats endured near record-breaking temperatures to cleanup "The Field" open space in Broomfield. Together, Democrats Work and the Broomfield County Dems have adopted "The Field" and are responsible for maintaining and cleaning the open space throughout the year. Sunday's tasks included picking up multiple bags of trash and recyclables as well as weeding the flower beds surrounding The Brunner Farmhouse.
Democrats Work mobilizes Democrats to perform community service . . . as Democrats. Democrats Work partners with Democratic and progressive organizations throughout Colorado to help connect grassroots volunteers with visible, tangible service projects in their communities.
"Our goal is to make community service an integral part of political action. Too often we take a narrow view of what it means to be involved in politics, and, at Democrats Work, we hope to expand that notion to include tangible service in our communities year-round," said Erin Egan, Colorado Director of Democrats Work. "We want to demonstrate that Democrats are working hard to improve our communities everyday, not just at election time."
Democrats Work has helped organize service events across the country and throughout the Denver metro area, including helping at the Wellness Fair in Broomfield and planting trees and cleaning up trails and parks in Arapahoe County. Upcoming events include a fence removal project at the Aurora Reservoir and a graffiti cleanup in Denver. Additional information is available at www.democratswork.org.
President Jimmy Carter and General Wesley Clark serve on the National Advisory Board of Democrats Work.
