Broomfield Percussion Ensemble Captures Gold
Contributed by: Sue Preston on 4/16/2008

The Broomfield High School Percussion Ensemble took first place in the Scholastic National A Division at the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association (RMPA) State Competition, Saturday, April 12, in Loveland. BHS was awarded their highest score of the season, an 88.5, with superior distinction in the visual category. The ensemble was crowned RMPA State Champions in 2007 and also won this year's 2008 WGI Denver Regionals.

The BHS Percussion Ensemble is a competitive music performance group that combines percussion and rhythm instruments with complicated marching and elements of theater. This year's production, In Motion, explores Sir Isaac Newton's laws of motion, which are the basis of classical mechanics. Featuring original music, the ensemble's show presents exciting, kinetic depictions of inertia, acceleration, and reciprocal actions.

The percussion ensemble will compete in the WGI World Championship for the second year in a row, April 18-19 in Dayton, Ohio. For performance times or to view a live web cast, check show information at www.WGI.org/Webcast
