Markley Receives Award for Service to Victims

Adams and Broomfield Counties, CO - For more than five years, Brighton resident Lori Markley has dedicated her time and compassion to helping support abused and neglected children in our community. Recently, that dedication was rewarded as Markley received the prestigious Thomas E. Green Award for outstanding service to victims in non-profit based settings.

As a Volunteer Coordinator for CASA of Adams and Broomfield Counties, Markley has supervised numerous volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates, who have provided services to over 237 child victims of abuse or neglect. Markley's supervisory role has continually gone beyond the professional level to support her volunteers, professionally and emotionally, so that they can provide appropriate and effective advocacy services.

In addition to going above and beyond the call of duty as a Volunteer Coordinator, Markley is also an invaluable member of the non-profit CASA team in many other ways, all of which ultimately affect the services that are provided to child victims of abuse and neglect. She is an active participant in all of CASA's fundraising events, and she enthusiastically assists the management staff with Volunteer recognition events, trainings or recruitment efforts.

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Adams and Broomfield Counties is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that trains, supports and supervises community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of innocent child victims of abuse and neglect. Each year, in Adams and Broomfield Counties, there are over 1,500 children who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused or neglected, and who are in desperate need of a caring, committed CASA Volunteer to speak up for their best interests. In Adams and Broomfield Counties, there are over 180 CASA volunteers, and we are in need of more great community members to become advocates for children. CASA conducts volunteer training classes three times a year. The next class begins in October 2009. For more information about CASA, call (303) 654-3378 or visit www.casa17th.org.
