North Metro Fire is conservative with 2009 budget

The North Metro Fire Rescue District Board has approved the 2009 Budget acknowledging that the economic challenges facing our country and our local community in the coming years as the economy rebuilds.

As the result, the operating expenses for the 2009 budget will hold at 2008 levels with few exceptions. The most notable impact will be to maintain current staffing levels for 2009. In addition, there will be no new programs or services initiated in 2009 and limited emergency equipment will be purchased. All existing programs and emergency services will continue.

"In an effort to operate responsibly, the Fire District will treat 2009 as an assessment year and work proactively to hold the line with our day-to-day expenses," said Robert Kammerzell, North Metro Fire Rescue District Board President. "However, we will continue to spend the designated funds to build Fire Station #67 and the Administration Complex as approved in the 2006 Bond Issue approved by Fire District voters."

In 2009, counties across Colorado will undergo a revaluation of property values. The Fire District's funding is determined by the value of the properties within Fire District boundaries. The 2009 revaluation could lead to an increase or decrease in 2010 property taxes received to fund emergency services. Due to the current state of the economy, the Fire District is anticipating a potential decrease which would translate into a reduction of property tax receipts in 2010 and 2011.
