The North Metro Fire Rescue District has completed and posted the 2008 Annual Report online for citizens at northmetrofire.org.
In 2008, North Metro Fire Rescue responded to 7,829 emergency calls, approximately 100 more than the previous year. An increase in fire incidents pushed the call volume up in 2008. Out of the 293 fire-related incidents, the largest percentage (22.8%) occurred in structures barely edging out grass/brush fires at 22.1%. Cooking-related fires earned third place at 18%. Next came refuse fires (dumpster, garbage) receiving 17% of the fire call volume. And, rounding out the top five, was vehicle fires at 9.9%.
However, even with additional fire emergencies across the district, emergency medical incidents are still the most common type of call run by North Metro Fire Rescue District. Approximately 70% of all emergencies are medical-related.
A notable program in 2008 was the Ambulance Membership Program (AMP). North Metro Fire Rescue saw a 12% increase in AMP memberships. The purpose of the program is to help off set ambulance care and transport costs by covering a member's insurance deductible or co-pay expenses for unforeseen emergencies.
