Candidate profile: Linda Reynolds
Contributed by: Linda Reynolds on 9/20/2007

Linda Reynolds is the incumbent for Broomfield Ward 5.

My name: Linda L Reynolds
Age: 60
My family: Larry, my husband, is a small business owner in Broomfield. Jerod, our son, owns his own HVAC business. Dawn, our oldest daughter works at Legacy High School with special needs children and is the mother of 5 and foster parent of 1. Eve, our youngest daughter lives in Ft. Collins and is a stay at home mom with 3 children
What I do: I currently am enjoying my place on city council which keeps me busy. Otherwise I help my husband with his Segway business and try to get time to ride.
My favorite place in town to hang out: Buenos Tiempos or Old Chicago
What I like most about living here: The people and the progressiveness of the town, yet still small enough to know a lot of folks.
My interests and hobbies: Politics and travel in the USA. I enjoy crafts and collect bells from the places we visit.
What is my favorite thing to cook: Thanksgiving dinner
People who inspired me (and how): Mr. Abe (Bum) Sandler, a Jewish pawnbroker who I worked for in Oklahoma City, who told me "everything works out for the best", even when it doesn't look like it at the time. That was 38 years ago, and I've remembered it in every situation I have been in and looked for the "best" rather than the disappointments.
How I have contributed to the community: I worked with the Citizens for Better Local Government to become a county. Then I was struck. I served on the Land Use Review Commission for 4 years and was chair the last year. I was elected to council in 2003 and appointed to several Boards and Advisory Committees. Along with my colleagues on council we have moved Broomfield forward with a Long Range Financial Plan that will keep Broomfield solvent into it's buildout and beyond. Every decision we make we weigh against that Plan and we are committed to not alter it. I helped on the 2005 MasterPlan and am currently on the task for for the Civic Center Project. I have a list of accomplishments in Ward 5, including the burial of power lines and landscaping at the eastern entrance of our city, benches in Bronco park, the clean up of the willow area in Bronco park, continuation of the trail system through Westlake, the renaming of 128th to East Midway, so Midway continues from county line to county line, making the eastern part of the city feel a part of the city, the Wilcox Transitional Overlay is complete. I see a need and try to address it head on.
What are the biggest issues facing your city now: Traffic is always on the list in a metropolitan area. The Wadsworth Interchange, being a state and Federal issue is the biggest by far for funding etc. Slip ramps at the Arista development are a must have. We need to continue to work on city streets that need to be completed on the 7 year plan. Sustainable growth keeping within the MasterPlan. We need to find a new building for our Health and Human Services Department, enlarge our Library and look at adding on to the detention center. The civic center plan needs to be completed and implemented. Unfunded mandates by federal and state agencies continue to be potential problems.
