Candidate profile: Louise Benson
Contributed by: Louise Benson on 9/20/2007

Louise Benson is running for Broomfield City Council, Ward 2

My name: Louise Benson
Age: 57
My family: Married, three children, two grandchildren
What I do: Geriatrician (physician for the elderly)
My favorite place in town to hang out: Home
What I like most about living here: Broomfield is a great place to raise a family, and is close to outdoor activities.
My interests and hobbies: Gardening and canning, camping, hunting and fishing, writing.
What is my favorite thing to cook: Elk chili
People who inspired me (and how): My mother, who was a Navy Wave, and my father who was an Army Forward Observer in WWII. They both fought for our freedom and came home, worked hard, and raised five children.
How I have contributed to the community: 20 years of volunteer service including:
Sunday school teacher, Scout leader, church and school volunteer, Community Sailing volunteer, Open Space petition drives, Health and Human Services Advisory Committee, Hospice of Boulder and Broomfield Counties Medical Advisory Board, BVSD Watch steering committee, Boulder County Medical Society Pan-Flu Committee and Delegate to 2007 Colorado Medical Society Annual Meeting.
What are the biggest issues facing your city now: 1. Transparency and accountability in regards to development in Broomfield (eg, the Events Center/Arista, Wal-Mart, Northwest Parkway, Comcast monopoly). 2. Multiple school districts fracture the community's voice and clout. 3. Health care access. 4. Micromanagement of small businesses and homeowners. 5. Infrastructure such as the Wadsworth interchange, and transportation.
