Candidate profile: Lori Cox

Incumbent Lori Cox is running for Broomfield City Council, Ward 2

My name: Lori R. Cox
Age: 43
My family: I have been married for 23 years and we have no children.
What I do: My husband and I are small business owners in Broomfield.
My favorite place in town to hang out: My husband and I love to "hang out" at wonderful little pizza place in town called "Original Pizza" on Midway Blvd.
What I like most about living here: My family moved here when I was just 10 years old. I love the small town feel and the fact that, no matter how much we've changed through the years, I've always felt safe and valued. I've made many wonderful friends over the years and love that I still see people I went to elementary school, junior high and high school with!
My interests and hobbies: I am passionate about music and I enjoy watching a variety of sports ( go RAGE and 14ers!). I also enjoy golfing, gardening and family get togethers.
What is my favorite thing to cook: Sorry ~ cooking is not my favorite thing!
People who inspired me (and how): My mother has always inspired me to work for the things I truly desire. I believed her when she told me I could accomplish anything I set out to do. She is the one who encouraged me to run for council and put my gifts to work for the citizens of Broomfield and I hope that, were she still alive, she'd be proud of the things the citizens and I have accomplished together.
How I have contributed to the community: Before being elected to council in 2003, I served the community in several volunteer capacities. Since being elected, I have served on the Rocky Flats oversight committee, several local boards and have spent countless hours researching the difficult and often complex issues which face the City Council on a weekly basis. I made a vow in my first campaign to take every opportunity possible to educate my constituents and work through issues with them. I also made a commitment to them that I will educate myself, understanding that the Council makes policy decisions on subjects which are dynamic and ever changing. In becoming educated regarding a wide scope of municipal government subjects, I have acquired tools which have been effective in saving the community money, encouraging federal funding for local projects, identifying economic development opportunities, and improving the outcome of private developments in Broomfield.
