Cramming "Cap and Trade"

If you believe government is doing a good job, and more government will be even better, I suggest you stop here.

For the rest of us, it is time to stop wringing our hands and to TAKE ACTION!

The US House of Representatives is being directed to act by July 4 on 1200 + pages of new legislation creating a new industry for attorneys, the financial industry and special interests, known as the "cap and trade" bill, (it's official title is the American Clean Energy and Security Act). Regardless of where you stand on the discussion about the science or the approach, you need to be outraged at the arrogance of politicians attempting to cram through huge new programs without public vetting.

Pick up the phone now and call your congressman (you can find their local and DC number at congress.org; start with "Find your officials" in small print on the right, under the ROLL CALL banner). It is unlikely you will speak to them directly, but your phone call will be used as a sort of poll. The office will typically ask for your name and city, and you can tell them whether you support or oppose the bill. You can also e-mail your congressperson, and make your position on the bill is in the subject line (I've heard the rest of an e-mail is often ignored because of volume).

And don't stop there - how long would it take you to e-mail like-minded friends? If you don't have time to compose your own, consider just sending them a link to this to this article, or congress.org.

We're in the shape we're in nationally because too many of us haven't set our citizenship DUTIES as a priority, and we're letting people with various agendas make decisions for us.

Enough is enough. Take a step now to start taking back OUR government.

Absolutely! I have been "vocally" active on several topics over the years. This is the first piece of legislation that is so bad; so terribly written and, potentially, so devastating to our already fragile economy that I have taken several of the steps you advocate. Unfortunately, the US House has passed it but a Senate vote can still be influenced by public opinion. Please contact our senators with your opinion.
