What a great year for Broomfield roses
Contributed by: Paul Madigan on 6/9/2008

Broomfield has its best year for growing roses. The only problem is, how many people know the names of these beautiful creation or even took the time to smell a flower.

As you walk the streets of Broomfield, take a good look at some of God's wonders and creations. Can you image the effort that some homeowners have gone through to bring this beautiful flowering bush to life. We have always been told to stop and smell the roses, but have we ever taken the time to understand their names and where their combination of hybrids came from?

I plant a rose bush every year in memory of my mother (who passed away at the age of 89), whose passion was her garden of roses. I now have over 16 bushes in my yard and enjoy my time with them. I learned a very valuable lesson from my mother, "Always take the time to smell the roses."

It's the simple things in life that we all take for granted. So the next time you are sitting in front of your TV or thinking there is nothing to do, take a walk in your neighborhood. Better yet, start your own little garden of memories, you will be happy you did and in the end, your little effort will make a great differences in your community and maybe just brighten your day.

I wish to thank personally the citizens that have tried so hard at producing beautiful gardens, and to those who don't think you have time for a garden, well let me say you never know what you are missing till you try.

A special note to Leonard Muniz, every day I work in my garden, I think how wonderful it is to be an American. The freedoms we have and the ability to feel no matter who is right or who is wrong, there is always time to "SMELL THE ROSES."
