Office I'm running for: State House, District 37
Age: 35
My family: Married 13 years, two daughters.
What I do: Writer, researcher, policy advisor.
My favorite place in town to hang out: The park
What I like most about living here: I'm a 4th generation Coloradan - I love the beautiful scenery and the people who make Colorado great.
My interests and hobbies: Writing, reading, cooking, gardening, dancing with my husband, singing with my children.
What is my favorite thing to cook: New gourmet recipes - I love to entertain friends and family.
People who inspired me (and how): Eleanor Roosevelt - strength, intelligence, and heart. She demonstrated the courage necessary for leadership; the wisdom to guide the way, and the kindness that inspires others to follow.
How I have contributed to the community: Founded a mentoring and tutoring program for at-risk children, President of a women's activist organization, The Eleanors. For the past decade, I have been the primary care giver for my 88 year-old grandmother. I am a regular volunteer at schools, shelters, and for children's activities. I was the leading organizer for a benefit for the White House Project and donation drives for teen shelters, Meals on Wheels, and battered Women's shelters.
What are the biggest issues facing my district now: Rising costs of health insurance, loss of funding for neighborhood schools, loan sharking and foreclosures, the increasing expense of college tuition, environmental pollutants, illegal immigration, diminishing opportunities for business and people.
