Walking for Angela
Contributed by: Jim Rasmussen on 10/5/2006

It's a Monday night in early September and I am going to "Walk for Angela Engel". Go, door to door, hand out literature, introduce and endorse Angela Engel to my neighbors and fellow citizens of Centennial, living in State House District 37.

Why do this? I could be over at Chatfield Reservoir, fishing for Small Mouth Bass on this pleasant early fall evening. Because I was mad that our state ranked last in 2004 in immunization of children. I'm mad because our state ranks 48 th in high school graduations. I'm mad because the Community College system in Colorado has been cut to bare bones. As a graduate of a Community College I found that my Associate Degree provided a stepping-stone to attendance at a state college at a time in my life when I had neither the grades nor the money to continue my education. Today's young people should have the same opportunity I was given.

Myself and the other seven volunteers out tonight want a change in our representation. Angela Engel is that change for that part of the City of Centennial in State House District 37.

Angela is a Colorado native and has received degrees from both the University of Denver and University of Colorado. For the past fifteen years Angela has been an advocate for children and for the advancement of education in our community and our state. For the past two years as an Education Policy Advisor she has worked with legislators to develop policies for education. She is familiar with the legislature and how it works. She is ready to step in and do the job. Angela supports Ref. C and believes in the partnership between business and government. Business needs educated citizens, roads and infrastructure to be successful and government needs the backing of business to function.

Most importantly Angela Engel has the desire and dedication to do the job in the State House. As a volunteer I have found Angela to be the hardest worker on the campaign, always reminding us to stay on the issues. And she has arrived tonight to go door to door. Off we go into the evening to knock on doors. "Hi my name is Jim Rasmussen and I'm a volunteer for Angela Engel"
