Blog Entry 58 of 97 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Getting the skinny about Arbonne
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 6/26/2007

Last night, June 25, I attended my first Arbonne International party hosted by YourHub.com contributor and Castle Pines resident, Anthonette Klinkerman. At the party, I got to meet some of Anthonette's neighbors and friends: Katrina, her mom Denise, Kate and Jana.

This is not the first skincare-type party I've gone to; I've been to a couple Body Shop parties hosted by my friends and co-workers. I like going to these things because first, you get together with your friends; secondly, you geta free hand or foot wash; and third, free samples. I'm a fan of free.

Anthonette's party was pretty fun, hailing to the theme of Deal or No Deal. Each person got to choose a "case" with a hidden prize inside. There was one grand prize of an entire kit of skincare products, which was about a $300 value, according to Anthonette. Katrina won the grand prize.

Before we smelled and sampled the products, Anthonette gave a short presentation about Arbonne. She has been a consultant for the company since January. She said she loves using Arbonne because it's all natural and working for them gives her freedom and security.

I have to admit, the hand wash that Anthonette gave me left my skin feeling smooth and smelling nice. And if I could spare the money to buy the stuff (ranging from $15 to $60 a bottle), I would. But I'm not vigilant when it comes to primping my skin. I'm pretty basic: Soap and water. I don't wear makeup and if I do, it's on very special occasions or when I actually make time for it. My morning routine consists of deodorant, lotion and chapstick.

So, the downside for me going to skincare parties is the pressure to buy something. Will I really use that bottle of deep moisturizing cleanser? Or will it sit for the next six months on my bathroom counter?

Also, I'm very wary of any type of company that depends on network marketing. Anthonette assured us that Arbonne is not a pyramid scheme and there are actual women out there who profit from selling the products. Katrina and Kate are already consultants and Jana is Anthonette's "upline."

Either way, I've been persuaded to host an Arbonne party of my own. Nothing solid yet, but I'm going to be as cautious as I can be. Stay tuned.
