Blog Entry 8 of 96 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

Where everybody knows your order
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 8/2/2006

About once a week, I make a trip to Quiznos for lunch. I go there because it's only a block away from our office and I don't like to take too much time getting food. It was (and I think still is) an office joke about how many times I go to Quiznos. Well, the food is decent and again, it's conveniently close.

Well, because of the frequency of my visits, I've developed a rapport with the staff. There have been some turnovers with people, but they still know me nonetheless. Now, I like pretty much anything regarding food - I'm not afraid to try something new. But I can be particular when it comes to certain things, like tomatoes. I love ketchup but I don't like tomatoes. Don't ask me why, I just don't.

Lately at Quiznos, I've been ordering their flatbread salads. Mostly for the flatbread. Yesterday, I ordered their chicken caesar salad and specified that I did not want tomatoes. Well, as I went through the line and watched them prepare my food, I saw one of them slop some tomatoes on my salad. Obviously, I didn't make myself clear enough.

The cashier is a charming girl and we usually have some small talk as she's ringing me up. When my salad was passed to her for payment, she looked at me, then looked at the salad.

"You ordered this, right?" she asked.

"Yes."

She looked back at the assembly line and said, "she wants no tomatoes." They quickly remedied the mistake and brought me a new salad sans tomatoes. The beauty of it was that I didn't even have to say anything - she just knew.

I guess I can feel good that the girl was familiar with my pickiness with tomatoes. It makes me think Quiznos is similar to Cheers - a place where everybody knows your name, or in my case, your salad order. At the same time, I feel like perhaps I go to Quiznos too often and I should lay off for a month or so.

But, I still have a punch card with one slot to fill in before I get a free meal. One more visit and then I'm through.

I often eat at Quizno's, Subway and Blimpies, or as I call them, The Sandwich Trifecta. I get one specific sandwich from each place, but they never remember my preferences. Ever. I always have to tell them that vegetables are the bane of my existence. All I want is meat, bread, cheese and a little mayo. The one place that has me pegged is the Noodles & Company in Parker. They can never remember my name, but, by golly, they cook up some mac & cheese with grilled chicken as soon as they see me walk in. After looking at some of my fav cusine, does it surprise you that I like vanilla ice cream?

It's kind of like when you walk into your favorite bar, and before you get to your seat, the bartender has your drink ready for you - maybe just a few too many visits...
