HubCap: Join Donna in defense of cupcakes

I sometimes find myself agreeing with Donna Feldman, a food and nutrition consultant who lives in Louisville and periodically shares her thoughts on YourHub.com. I find this especially true when she says that cupcakes aren't that bad and we just need to exercise more.

I personally don't particularly enjoy the thought of "working out," per se, but find myself doing itso I can continue to eat french fries, brownies, lattes, ice cream, nachos, and family-size bags of spicy Nacho Doritos. I like this approach and think more people shouldtry it,in moderation, of course.After some dedication to the program, though, I think you can let the floodgates open. When you're training for a marathon, for example,don't be surprised (or feel guilty) when you realize you've just consumed an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's ice cream without really noticing.

I believe Donna, as a food and nutrition consultant, isn't exactly endorsing this strategy, but she may be kind of on the same track. In her latest posting, "Cupcakes blamed for childhood obesity," Donna argues that schools don't need to outlaw birthday cupcakes as suggested in this story on The Denver Post's site, but should think about making kids walk more -- she suggests banning all cars from coming withing five blocks of school buildings.

I'm all for it. What do you think? I will argue that it is not the fault of the cupcake.

I'm all for walking more, using the stairs more and finding non-listless activites you enjoy doing. Mmmm.... cupcakes! Bring them on!
