Firehouse Quilts helps Brookside Inn, Castle Rock
Contributed by: Dusty Darrah on 1/3/2007

Brookside Inn, a Castle Rock nursing home, enlisted the help of the Firehouse Quilts volunteers in making a scrappy, patchwork quilt to raffle at the nursing home's family Christmas party in December.

Ellen Palmer, FHQ volunteer, assembled 7 rows of 5.5" scrappy blocks for the rest of the group to take to Castle Rock for the quilt. After a couple of trips down there and spending several hours piecing and finally tying the queen sized quilt, it was ready.

Several residents of the nursing home enjoyed watching the process as it all came together.

It really took them back to 'another time' when they were still able to sew and quilt. It was a very rewarding experience and good, fun companionship. For more information about Firehouse Quilts, see their website www.firehousequilts.org. They can always use donations of cotton fabric and batting; contact Dusty at firehousequilts@att.net to arrange a drop-off.
