Eagle Academy students shine at first art show
Contributed by: Anthonette Klinkerman on 5/20/2008

On the night of May 14, Eagle Academy High School, one of Douglas County's Options schools, hosted its first annual Art Show.

The brainchild of teacher Timothy Bishop, the Art Show was a multi-media feast. Over thirty students participated, and even a few teachers got into the act. As it turns out, Mr. Bishop has a talent for the blues, and he strutted his stuff while being accompanied on guitar by Mr. Moore. Mrs. Natalie Munoz-Garcia gamely read a poem she had written for her class.

Students featured paintings and sketches, poetry, short films, and computer-generated music. Particularly funny was a mockumentary about the real story behind the hit children's series "The Magic School Bus".

The array of talent displayed was impressive, but even more so was the support of the Eagle students for one another. Though a few technical difficulties threw off the schedule, a number of dedicated students stayed until the last artist performed.

Mr. Bishop pointed out, many of history's most noted artists suffered from varying distresses and mental disorders. Yet, there was a gift therein that was expressed as art. Art is the outlet for many Eagle students, and as audience members discovered last night, we as a society are the recipients of this amazing gift.
